Why is Sardinia the natural stage for a supercar?
Start with the roads. The SS125 Orientale Sarda strings together corners and elevation changes for dozens of kilometres, the climb to the Genna Silana pass puts chassis and brakes in conversation in a way few European roads can match, and the seafront straights between Chia and Teulada let the engine breathe against an unbroken blue horizon. Here a supercar is never a static showpiece: it works, it communicates, it gives something back with every metre — even at entirely legal speeds.
Then there is the logistics, which on holiday matter as much as the driving. Land at Olbia, Cagliari or Alghero and the car is waiting; step off the tender and the key is already at the quay — renting a Lamborghini in Porto Cervo works exactly like that. With 27 destinations served and 3 airports across Sardinia, you choose the delivery point and the supercar slots into your trip without forcing you to replan it.
Finally, there is timing. A summer dawn, when the coast is still empty and the tarmac is cool; or May and September, when the roads clear and temperatures are perfect for tyres and brakes. Sardinia offers a supercar the one thing no circuit ever can: a landscape that changes at every corner.
How do I work out which supercar suits my itinerary?
Start with the engine, because it sets the character of the day. The naturally aspirated 610 hp V10 in the Lamborghini Huracán climbs through the revs like a musical instrument and rewards anyone chasing pure emotion; the 830 hp hybrid V6 in the Ferrari 296 GTB pairs instant thrust with electric silence through towns and villages; the twin-turbo V8 in the McLaren 720S is the most surgical of the three, with a lightness you feel within the first few corners.
Then think about how you will actually use it. Travelling as a couple with two soft bags, a mid-engined two-seater is perfect; if you want all-wheel drive, two extra seats and an honest boot, the 911 Turbo is the supercar you can drive every day without compromise. The open versions — 488 Spider, Huracán Spyder, 570S Spider — add the sky overhead, well worth considering if your route runs along the coast.
Still undecided? Describe your itinerary to our WhatsApp concierge: the roads you plan to drive, how many of you there are, what luggage you are carrying. We will come back with two or three options that genuinely fit, drawn from a fleet of more than 100 models and 150+ versions. After that, all that remains is to check availability for your dates.
A day in a supercar between granite and sea: what it is really like
Seven in the morning, pulling away from a villa above Porto Rotondo, the engine still speaking softly between the dry-stone walls. First coffee in San Pantaleo, beneath the granite spires, the car gathering glances in the square without asking for them. Then inland Gallura: cork oaks, wide open corners, the scent of myrtle drifting through the vents with the first warmth of the sun.
Mid-morning brings the coast: that sudden flash of blue beyond a ridge, the descent towards Palau with the Strait of Bonifacio ahead and La Maddalena on the horizon. A long lunch, barefoot if the mood takes you. On the way back, in the late afternoon, the low light sets the granite alight and the V10 — or the V8, or the hybrid — carries you up the final climb to the villa. It is not the speed you remember afterwards: it is how present you were for every single kilometre.
