Why does Porto Rotondo deserve a car to match?
Porto Rotondo is elegance that never raises its voice. The village was born in the mid-1960s from the vision of the Venetian counts Donà dalle Rose, who drew a little granite Venice around an almost perfectly circular bay: the Piazzetta San Marco with its tiered steps, the open-air theatre Mario Ceroli carved into the rock, the low villas tucked away in the gardens of Punta Volpe. Nobody parades here; you belong. And the right car follows that register — assured presence, zero fanfare.
The other reason is geography: Porto Rotondo is the most convenient base on the entire north-eastern coast. The airport is barely half an hour away, Olbia twenty minutes, and the Costa Smeralda begins just beyond the Gulf of Cugnana. With a car at the door, you move from coffee in the piazzetta to the beach at Marinella, from dinner out of town to sunset at Punta Volpe — never once depending on transfers or anyone else's timetable.
How does delivery work in Porto Rotondo?
From Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport it's 19 kilometres, around 30 minutes — the quickest run to any of the area's prestige destinations. The most beautiful route is the SP73 via Cugnana and Portisco, tracing the gulf before climbing towards the village. You can take delivery at arrivals and drive off immediately, or have the car waiting at your destination: outside your villa, at the hotel reception, or quayside at Marina di Porto Rotondo, where we coordinate with the crew if you arrive by boat.
Everything runs through your WhatsApp concierge: share your flight or berth, address and timing, and an LSM representative hands over the car fuelled and ready, taking you through the controls and details at your own pace. At the end, we collect it — at the same spot or anywhere else; many guests simply leave it at the airport on departure day. Requirements and conditions are provided at the quotation stage.
What to see — and where to drive — around Porto Rotondo?
Start with the village itself: the Piazzetta San Marco with its granite steps, the boutiques beneath the arcades and, just above, the church of San Lorenzo, whose interior surprises everyone with its congregation of wooden figures carved by Mario Ceroli — worth the visit even if you never set foot in churches. On foot, a few minutes downhill brings you to Ira beach: pale sand, gently shelving water, the holiday's first swim within flip-flop distance.
Then comes the driving. The short loop is the ring around Punta Volpe: residential lanes between dry-stone walls and bougainvillea, sheltered coves like Punta Lada opening up without warning, and views over the Gulf of Cugnana from above. The medium loop is Marinella — ten minutes by car to a broad, sandy bay, at its best in late afternoon when the light drops low across the water. The long loop is the SP73 run in reverse, towards Portisco: soft curves skimming the shoreline, the marina with its forest of yacht masts, and lay-bys for pausing to watch the islands out in the gulf.
When you want a proper stretch, the SS125 Orientale Sarda opens up two worlds: north to Arzachena and the gateway to the Costa Smeralda, south with the silhouette of Tavolara keeping you company for kilometres on end. But the perfect evening circuit remains the Porto Rotondo–Portisco–Olbia triangle: sea, curves, and a return to the piazzetta for one last glass.
Which car suits Porto Rotondo best?
The village's register calls for elegance over noise — and a Ferrari Roma translates it perfectly: clean lines, a V8 that minds its manners in the piazzetta and turns ferocious when the SS125 opens up, presence that needs no explanation. If you want everyday agility through the lanes of Punta Volpe, the Porsche 911 Carrera is precise and tireless; and for open skies with four genuine seats, the Maserati GranCabrio Trofeo is the Marinella–Portisco run rendered in automotive form.
